An account from a witness to beauty

    Monday, June 16th, 2008

After being absolutely blown away by Leonard Cohen on Saturday night, I knew I had to go again. He was just that good.
    Let me explain.
Just before the gig on Saturday started my friend asked me how long I thought he’d play for. “It’ll either be 20 minutes or 3 hours”, I said, implying that it […]

    After the goldrush

    Tuesday, May 27th, 2008

Excuse me for using an Neil Young song title for a post about the Tom Waits gig but as Fergal points out, there has been a touch of Waits-Fever online today as people finally got a chance to splash out on his upcoming Dublin gigs.
Having called in a few favours, dissolved a few assets and […]

So after all of that, Tom Waits’ Dublin gig has been totally confirmed.

    Tom Waits’ Dublin gigs confirmed?

    Wednesday, May 7th, 2008

I’ve been following news on Tom Waits’ return to Ireland like a hawk and between a few friends we’ve all been keeping each other up to date on the latest rumours.
Today Hot Press have said that Waits will play two nights at a Marquee at the Phoenix Park; July 30th and 31st. No sign of […]

    Did he just say Dublin?

    Tuesday, May 6th, 2008

Damien has the video announcement of Tom Waits’ latest US tour, which is an entertaining few minutes of footage.
What’s piqued my interest, though, is the end. He’s asked about a European tour and he confirms it’s going to happen… but does he say between Spain and Dublin?
    Drool.

    NIN and the ever-moving boundaries

    Monday, May 5th, 2008

I’ve blogged about Trent Reznor / Nine Inch Nails so much already I’m starting to feel like I should rename this blog, but allow me to go down this route once again.
Today Nine Inch Nails quietly released their latest album, The Slip, on their website for absolutely no price. You can download the 10-track release […]

On The Last Word to talk about digital downloads

    Wednesday, March 19th, 2008

I’ll be going onto The Last Word at around 5:20pm this evening to talk about digital downloads - all on the back of rumours about a new iTunes subscription model, not to mention Nine Inch Nails’ recent Ghosts I-IV release.
Tune in online, on the radio, on your TV or through whatever other device you can […]

    Making money out of Ghosts

    Wednesday, March 5th, 2008

Having successfully downloaded and listened through Nine Inch Nails‘ ‘Ghosts I-IV‘ I’ve been thinking over the potential for the business model pursued by Reznor with this instrumental album.
There’s no doubt that selling digital downloads for $5 and CDs for $10 will attract a lot of interest from fans - as will the higher-end packages for […]

The experiment continues (Nine Inch Nails’ Ghosts I-IV)

    Monday, March 3rd, 2008

With various players involved in music trying different approaches to deal with the challenges of a changing industry landscape, news today shows that the experiment continues.
Completely out of the blue Trent Reznor self-released a new collection of his work, titled ‘Ghosts I-IV’, containing 36 tracks of completely new instrumental work. The business model works as […]

Is ‘Falling Slowly’ really being investigated?

    Sunday, January 27th, 2008

I picked up The Sunday Tribune today largely because of the front-page reference to ‘Falling Slowly’, the freshly Oscar-nominated song from surprise Irish hit ‘Once’.
The front-page lead-in reads “Could Once be disqualified? - Irish film’s Oscar hopes in doubt” with the headline of the article itself (written by Una) reading “Hollywood probe to decide if […]
